Brazil - Rio de Janeiro Paraty Expedition - Instructional Tour
This is a real expedition to one of the most beautiful and isolated parts of Brazil, with enough time to enjoy the magic of this wonderful region. Despite the proximity of Brazil's largest cities, the Paraty Expedition passes through sparsely inhabited regions with no access, full of deserted beaches, jagged bays and open sea. It is an expedition of approximately 90 km, which will put your kayaking skills to the test. This is the trip of a lifetime!
Itinerary by day

- We will arrive in Rio de Janeiro, meet at the hotel, and eat dinner (not included). Your transfer from the airport is included in the cost.
- Explore Rio with our famous kayak guide, Iza 😀. Examples include Sugarloaf (the famous one), Christ the Redeemer, Copacabana Boardwalk and the beaches.
- Transfer to Paraty in a private shuttle (included). Trip briefing, preparation, and dinner are included. Overnight and dinner are included, but lunch is not.
- After enjoying breakfast, we will launch our kayaks through the calm waters of Paraty Bay. Along the way, we will pass by the picturesque Sapeca Island and the beautiful Vermelha Beach before reaching our destination at Saco da Velha, a small beach in a clear-water bay. We will set up camp and have dinner at a local restaurant. This journey covers a total distance of 16 km/10 mi and includes breakfast, lunch, dinner at a local restaurant, and camping with necessary amenities.
- We will embark on a paddle journey along Fundão Bay, where we will witness the beauty of the green waters and the preserved Atlantic rainforests surrounding it. Our route will take us through Almas and Cotia Island until we reach the fishermen's village of Cruzeiro in Mamanguá Bay, a truly unique and special place. This bay looks like a tropical fjord, with a length of 5 miles and a width of 1 mile, and 2000 ft-high mountains surround it. We will be camping at a well-structured campsite in front of the sea, approximately 19 km/12 mi from the starting point. Our meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, will be served at a local restaurant.
- We will start the day by kayaking to the next village to meet Mr. Dico, a local artisan. He will tell us about their culture and history and carve a miniature of the traditional one-trunk canoe. We will then paddle into a little mangrove river and encounter spectacular fauna like crabs and birds. The river will then turn into an Atlantic forest river, covered by tall trees, until we reach a remote pond. Here, we will have lunch and take a swim. We will then paddle back to our campsite, 12km/7.5 mi. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be included at a local restaurant.
- We will hike Sugar Loaf Peak (400m / 1400ft) in Mamanguá, which is not the famous one in Rio. It will be an uphill hike of about an hour, but the view from the top is worth it, as it offers the most spectacular view of the Mamanguá Bay. After the hike, you can take the rest of the day off to enjoy this little paradise by snorkelling, swimming, or simply relaxing on the beach. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided at a local restaurant, and you can camp with all the necessary facilities.
- As we head towards Cajaíba Bay, a remote area, we will encounter more spacious waters until we reach Grande Beach. We will make a stop at Deserta Beach for lunch. Grande Beach is a stunning beach with a beautiful river where we will camp. The total distance covered would be 16 km or 10 miles. This package includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner at a local restaurant and camping with basic facilities.
- We will take a different route and paddle back to Paraty, passing by Algodão Island and the small Jurumirim Bay. We will stop for lunch at the bay and enjoy a beautiful view of Paraty's colonial churches from the sea. After lunch, we will continue paddling and reach Paraty by the end of the day, where we will have a celebration dinner. The total distance covered will be 24 km / 15 mi, and breakfast, lunch, and celebration dinner will be provided.
