Would you like to boost your confidence in coastal touring environments? Building on the skills you acquired in Levels 1 and 2, we will help you apply them to scenarios in open water and small surf zones. This base camp adventure will be held on the Saugeen Peninsula in various locations, where you can enhance your skills in a supportive, inclusive, and friendly training environment.


Sample itinerary: 

Day 1

  • The first morning of this training includes a review of flatwater edging, including turns and supportive strokes. 
  • We will review boat control maneuvers in elevated sea states water.
  • Scenarios and re-entry techniques in a dynamic environment.
  • Rolling refresher (Rolling is not a requirement to join)

Day 2

  • If a surf zone is available, we will work on rescues in dynamic water. If not, we will work on open-water navigation.
  • Launching and landing scenarios.
  • Boat control in elevated sea state.
  • Towing in elevated sea state
  • Scenarios and re-entry techniques in a dynamic environment.

Day 3

  • Work on coastal navigation.
  • Open crossings and ded reckoning. The destination will be Cove or Flowerpot Island.
  • Group management scenarios.

Day 4

  • Rock gardens
  • Cave rescues
  • Rolling in elevated sea state - optional
  • Wrap up

 

 

For this class, you will require: 

  • Paddle Canada Level 1+ Skills
  • A sea kayak with two bulkheads. 
    • We have fibreglass sea kayaks for rent. You may use your own if you wish.
    • You will need a pump, a whistle, and a tow belt. They are available to purchase.
  • Dry suits are available if required.
  • A PFD is mandatory; you must bring your own.
  • A paddle
  • We do not provide food on this trip.
  • Parking permits are the responsibility of the participant.

This can be applied to your Level 3 progression if requested. A set of requirements will need to be met for it to count.
