Introduction to Surfing and Forecasting the Great Lakes
Introduction to Great Lakes Surfing is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of surfing on the Great Lakes. The course will cover topics such as break selection and predicting favourable wind conditions. Participants will also gain hands-on experience in the surf zone, focusing on skills like launching, landing, paddle strokes and catching waves. Additionally, the curriculum will include an exploration of wave dynamics, encompassing wave behaviour, identification techniques, and methods for choosing safe areas to enjoy.
The Niagara Peninsula provides a great opportunity to surf on the Great Lakes. In the fall, the prevailing winds shift from the southwest to the east. Due to the unique geography of the lakes, there is usually a place to surf during the windy season.
