Difficulty: This is as protected as water gets. The lake is sheltered on all sides by trees and gentle embankments, making it ideal for beginners, family paddling, or flatwater practice.

Trip Length: Handrailing the shoreline gives you a pleasant 8 km paddle. With photo stops and conversations with people around the park, expect around a 3-hour outing.

While paddling, it's easy to imagine what this region looked like before it was converted to farmland. The lake is ringed by Carolinian forest, and the colours in fall are spectacular.

Cost: The conservation area is a bit more expensive than some day-use sites, but the amenities—camping, day use, washrooms, snacks, and firewood—justify the fee.
