Big Water Gathering - Plan Your Weekend

Please select your preferred track for each day. We’ll use this to group you with the right instructors.

Day 1

The the first day of this event includes a review of flatwater edging, covering turns and supportive strokes. We will examine boat control maneuvers, scenarios, and re-entry techniques in a dynamic environment for the well-timed participants. A rolling refresher will also be available (Rolling is not a requirement to join).

Day 1 Track:

Day 2

For Flatwater participants interested in building on the skills reviewed on day one, we will have a review of more advanced strokes, followed by a re-entry clinic. We will explore assistive devices, scoop rescues, and the hand of God while examining scenarios. The strokes will include bow rudders, cross-bow rudders, running draws, and forward stroke refinement. There will also be a rolling clinic available. For our Bumpy participants: If a surf zone is available, we will work on rescues in dynamic water. If not, we will focus on open-water navigation, launching and landing scenarios, boat control and towing in elevated sea states, and re-entry techniques in dynamic conditions.

Day 2 Track:
Rolling Preference (Day 2):

Day 3

Work on coastal navigation. Open crossings and dead reckoning. The destination will be Cove or Flowerpot Island. Group management scenarios.

Day 3 Track:

Day 4

Rock gardens. Cave rescues. Rolling in elevated sea state – optional. Wrap-up.
